Dance Roots
Louisiana Dance Roots is a cultural, educational, and experiential partner dance practice centered on community, culture, and connection.
Mission
The mission of Louisiana Dance Roots is to create personalized dance experiences that bring together community, culture, and connection through a culturally grounded, experiential, and partnership-centered approach to Louisiana social dance.
About
Through Louisiana Dance Roots, I am dedicated to preserving, teaching, and sharing Louisiana’s partner dance traditions, including Waltz, Two-Step, Zydeco, and other forms of social dance.
Drawing on over 20 years of experience in dance, education, social work, and breathwork, I blend science, intuition, and lived experience to create supportive learning environments that encourage confidence, connection, communication, and collaboration.
Through private lessons, workshops, community events, and cultural experiences, Louisiana Dance Roots welcomes people of all backgrounds and experience levels to explore Louisiana’s music, movement, and culture while helping carry these living traditions forward.
For the Love of Dance,
Brandon Broussard
Approach
The Louisiana Dance Roots approach invites dancers to learn through listening, feeling, responding, and moving together. Lessons explore music, rhythm, body awareness, and partner connection while encouraging dancers to develop their own natural way of moving.
Cultural knowledge, stories, and traditions are woven into the experience, offering a deeper understanding of the people, places, music, and communities that have shaped Louisiana’s social dances. Through this approach, dance becomes a way to experience and share community, culture, and connection.
Louisiana Dance Roots is a cultural, educational, and experiential partner dance practice centered on community, culture, and connection. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, or medical treatment.
Louisiana Dance Roots offers a variety of ways to experience, learn, and share Louisiana’s partner dance traditions.

More Than Learning the Steps
While the primary focus is getting you moving to Louisiana’s signature partner dance styles—including the Waltz, Two-Step, Zydeco, and more—lessons also offer opportunities to explore the cultural roots, history, music, and traditions that shape how people dance across Louisiana.
Along the way, you may encounter the influences and traditions of Creole, Cajun, Zydeco, Zydecajun, Swamp Pop, La La, Fais Dodo, Jitterbug, Besbas, Whiskey River, and more—each contributing to the rich and evolving story of Louisiana social dance.
As Diverse as Louisiana Itself
The Waltz, Two-Step, and Zydeco traditions found throughout Louisiana are as diverse as the music, food, language, communities, and people who have come together across the region.
These dances have been carried forward across generations, with each generation learning from what came before while contributing its own experiences, interpretations, and ways of moving. Each generation becomes part of the timeline of the dance—honoring the past, dancing in the present, and helping shape what is carried into the future.
Louisiana Dance Roots is passionate about helping dancers experience that depth while developing greater confidence and understanding on the dance floor. Lessons strive to create a supportive, encouraging, and empowering environment where individuals can explore their own movement while learning how to connect and move in partnership with others.
A Living Dance Culture
With Lafayette serving as a central hub, Louisiana’s dance culture extends throughout communities such as Breaux Bridge, Henderson, New Orleans, Eunice, Lake Charles, Houma, Opelousas, and many places in between.
Dance halls, community gatherings, festivals, and live music venues continue to bring musicians and dancers together. Festivals showcase Louisiana bands and often introduce new dancers to the culture through social dancing and dance lessons.
Community music jams also play an important role, bringing musicians together to share songs, learn from one another, and carry traditions forward.
The musicians keep the music playing. The dancers keep the floor moving. Each generation adds to the story. Together, the culture continues to thrive.
